Celebrating International Security Officers' Day 2022

The life of a security officer can often be exciting, stressful, rewarding and dangerous. Every day we are grateful to our officers for their commitment to keeping us safe and happy, and this weekend is the perfect opportunity to thank them.

This Sunday, July 24, join us in celebrating International Security Officers’ Day, an opportunity to recognise the sacrifices our officers make to support us 24/7. Whether it’s protecting us from harm or simply offering us directions, they are always there to lend a hand.

Over the last week, Certis Security Australia has been showing our gratitude to these courageous individuals by sending each of our security officers a personalised care package, including commemorative service pins from peak body ASIAL, Thank You cards from our Chief Executive, Kang Song Lim, and delicious cookies from our first nation friends at Dreamtime Tuka!

In the lead-up to International Security Officers’ Day, we have also been taking the chance to get to know some of our officers even better and hear what they love about the industry. Shannon Rodda has worked in security in South Australia for seven years and has been with Certis since 2020. Her exceptional work and positive attitude have seen her rise quickly from casual guarding duties to being promoted to Site Supervisor of a large retail precinct, a role she has proudly held for over two years.

“I love the variety that the Security Industry provides,” Shannon explains. “Every day is different. I also work with a great team which always makes coming to work each day a pleasure.”

Shannon’s passion for theft prevention, and her background as a covert loss prevention officer, recently came in handy when she thwarted the theft of over $10,000 in jewellery. During a routine patrol she discovered the stolen materials and was confronted by the suspect while retrieving them. Remaining calm, Shannon used her authoritative and conflict management skills to convince the thief to leave the area empty-handed, keeping herself and her colleagues safe.

So, if you see a security officer like Shannon this weekend, give them a smile and a simple thank you for all that they do.
